Courtesy of the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center, here is an overview of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Use the drop down menu at the bottom to select the budget category that matters to you. You get an estimate of what the total Massachusetts allocation will be, and some clues about how the money will be distributed. The report is partly designed to help municipalities understand which funds can be used to close budget gaps (e.g., to prevent having to dip into reserves or increase debt). But to the extent municipalities can’t pocket the money in order to balance their budgets, the money has a fighting chance of making it into the community and having a noticeable impact. So that distinction should be relevant for all of us.
